Space Solutions Committee

The Space Solutions Committee’s job is to support the growth of this congregation. We are doing this in three ways:

• Working on reasonably quick (3-6 months) solutions to the pressing need for RE space (for all ages), parking and overflow worship space
• Deepening our understanding of what we can do with our current property
• Actively scanning the market for other church property or acceptable retail space. The Emerson Space Solutions Committee and the Emerson Board of Trustees recommends that Emerson spend about 25% of our capital reserves on improvements we feel will support the continued growth of our congregation.

Current Challenges and Actions

More Room for Learning
A strong Religious Education program is one of the critical success factors for effective growth. We have an outstanding RE program and it shows. It shows in the numbers of kids and adults who attend RE every Sunday. The bad news is the space we have for most classes is inadequate.

 

Parking

The good news about our parking situation is that people come early to be sure they get a parking spot. The bad news is that parking at Emerson is a serious safety issue not to mention a “no room for me” signal to potential new members. The new trailer will take some spaces as well, making a bad situation worse. We are working to add 25 more parking spaces at the bottom of our lot near the street.

 

Supporting Worship

OK… chairs and hymnals aren’t traditional capital expenditures, but they DO support what we come to Emerson. More people equals more chairs and more hymnals. We need both the traditional hymnals and the new supplement. We need chairs for overflow worship and event use. The Committee is working on getting more of the essential items.
