Green Sanctuary Team

Green Sanctuar

Creating a sustainable way of life is central to our view of a just and compassionate world. We invite all who share these values to join us on this journey of connection, sustainability, and hope. Get involved in our broad and growing movement for climate justice. Being a Green Sanctuary is one of the ways we work toward a vision of a healthier, more sustainable

future.

As a UUA recognized Green Sanctuary Congregation, we live with a deep awareness of our climate crisis and the deep environmental injustices of our time.

We commit to three practices, grounded in Unitarian Universalist principles:

Environmental Justice: We partner with marginalized communities who are hit first and hardest by environmental crisis. In partnering with these communities, we are able to address human and environmental needs at the same time.

Sustainable Living: (individual and congregational) We treat the world more gently by using fewer resources and being mindful of the choices we make, both as a congregation and as households.

Environmental Spirituality: Our workshops and programs shape attitudes and build practices that are sustainable and spiritually grounded. Worship inspires our work and reminds us of what is most sacred and most true.

Below are some planned activities:

  • Gardening: create a pollinator/butterfly garden, composting, raised beds, bee keeping
  • Partnering:  Sierra Club, River Keepers, Cobb EMC, CSA box delivery (Community Supported Ag)
  • Legislation:  coal ash dumping, illegal dumping, local farming, Paris Agreement, Capital Conservation Day
  • Spirituality: sweat lodge, nature walks/forest bathing, labyrinths, photography, dance, Earth Day
  • Learning: no waste banquette, renewable energy, climate change, biomimicry
